Time is running out on your chance to weigh in on the US Hemp Authority’s Guidance Plan 2.0 – the hemp industry’s effort to establish high standards, best practices, and self-regulation for hemp farming, processing and product manufacture and marketing in the dietary supplement, food and cosmetic spaces.
As discussed more fully here, the U.S. Hemp Authority’s certification process will always be a work in improvement, and we count on all members of the hemp industry to weigh in on the evolving requirements of the program.
Indeed, thanks to the initial comments received, we want to bring your attention to an important new issue. The draft Guidance Plan called for GMO labeling, but was not specific on the content or procedure. A subcommittee of the US Hemp Roundtable developed a proposal to address this issue, that includes a prohibition on genetically-engineered hemp, and specific labeling requirements for genetically-engineered non-hemp ingredients in hemp products. We’d like to hear your opinion on the proposal and/or other suggestions you might have on this issue.
Our public comment period began in July and ends on September 15 – so we need your input now.
