With the current industry news on total THC percentage being mandatory I’ve seen many farmers consider switching to CBG only crops. The idea is that CBG is compliant and will meet those requirements.
What are your thoughts on this trend and how do you feel it will effect processing and the flower markets?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
By shifting to high CBG cultivars, because of the biochemical pathways in the cannabis plant, those plants will be very low in both CBD and THC. This definitely could be a trend we might see if the USDA regulations on counting both THC and THCa are strictly enforced starting in 2020.
I strongly suggest that everyone who is concerned about this or any aspect of the USDA Interim Final Rules share your comments that with the USDA at this link.
Yes, the shift will reduce CBD and THC percentage due to the regulations seems to be an option many of us have considered and I encourage everyone to add their comments to the USDA, as total THC and the lack of standards in testing will leave this industry major flux.
